Hi, my name is Norma. I have a master’s in public health from the UW, but now I am a second year PhD student in Nutritional Sciences. I was born on the outskirts of Mexico City but lived most of my life in Tijuana. I have always known that I wanted to empower people through food. For my master’s program, my thesis was about an intervention using the traditional Mexican diet. In my doctoral program, I have been working with the Latinx population in Eastern Washington to both increase food access and also promote healthy food intake. I believe the traditional Mexican diet has so much to offer if we just scratch the surface a little bit.
Fun fact: I speak 3 & ½ languages!
