Lizeth Vizcaino- Sandoval

My name is Lizeth Vizcaino-Sandoval. I’m a first-generation Latina student currently working on my graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling through Western Washington University in Bellingham WA. I hope to become a licensed clinical mental health counselor to work with my community and others in need. I will be graduating in June of 2026.

I grew up in Leavenworth WA in a Mexican American family. Growing up in a primarily White community, I and other diverse students faced prejudice and difficulties fitting in. There was a lot of misunderstanding in my own community and family about mental health. This was difficult to navigate when I began to have a hard time with my mental health. After receiving mental health care for myself, I gained a lot of respect for therapists and wanted to become one.

I graduated with my BS in Psychology from Western in 2021 and am continuing my graduate education here. Since graduating I’ve also gained a lot of work experience in the behavioral health field. I am currently working as an agency affiliated counselor at Consejo Counseling and Referral Service in Mount Vernon WA as I pursue my education. Consejo has allowed me to work alongside a variety of people. Most importantly it’s been great to experience helping people in my community with their mental health issues and to be able to help someone in the way I was helped.

Fun fact about me: I was able to go see RBD in concert when they toured and live out a childhood dream.
