Floridel Jimenez

My name is Floridel Jimenez. I am a proud first-generation Afro-Latina from the Dominican Republic, born in Miami, FL. Raised as and still a practicing Christian, I graduated from Florida State University in 2013 and commissioned into the US Army as a Registered Nurse. Throughout my military service and now as a Veteran, I have traveled extensively, working as a maternal-newborn nurse in various states, including North Carolina, Texas, Alaska, New York City, and multiple hospitals on the West Coast of Washington. In all these locations, I have found being fluent in Spanish to be a major asset to patient care.  I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of having someone on a patient’s healthcare team who speaks their native language fluently. It not only restores the patient-provider trust relationship but also creates a safer and more comforting environment.

I am currently a second-year medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine Seattle campus. With a deep passion for maternal-newborn care, I aspire to become an OB/GYN, dedicated to supporting and improving the health of underrepresented mothers and their newborns.

Fun fact/hobby: I love to powerlift!
