I am a first-generation Mexican American student who is passionate about serving underserved communities, especially the Latino community and other marginalized populations. I earned my Associate of Arts from Yakima Valley College in 2023, my Bachelor of Social Work from Heritage University in 2025, and I am currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at Heritage University. I am a mother, wife, and daughter, and my family is at the center of everything I do. I enjoy spending time with them through simple moments like movie nights at home and BBQing together. Their support has been a major part of my motivation to continue my education. My interest in mental health comes from my own lived experience. As a first-generation Mexican American, I grew up in a culture where mental health was rarely talked about and often misunderstood. Many Latino families are taught not to talk about feeling depressed or overwhelmed, which can make it hard to ask for help. This stigma is often tied to cultural beliefs, lack of education, and spiritual views. Seeing this firsthand has pushed me toward a career in mental health so I can help educate, support, and reduce stigma within my community and other underserved groups. My goal is to be a mental health professional who listens, advocates, and helps create safe spaces for individuals and families who may otherwise feel unseen or unheard.
