My name is Alejandro “Alex” Matias, and I am a second-year medical student in the class of 2026 at the Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. Moving to Washington in my late youth, I called Spokane home from 2004 until enlisting into the United States Navy in 2011 as a Hospital Corpsman. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences in 2016 from Southern New Hampshire University and my Master of Science degree in
Biology in 2021 from George Mason University.
Through my professional experience as a Corpsman, my medical experiences have been predominantly centered around family medicine, emergency medicine, and combat casualty care in tactical settings spending the
last decade serving with Marines and Sailors before embarking on this journey to become a physician. I am excited to take this next step in my medical education and look forward to broadening my exposure to the multitude of
medical specialties available. I’ve gained an extraordinary appreciation for the collaborative effort of medicine and the impact that competent care can have on a patient’s life and the lives of their loved ones.
I am humbled by the opportunity to gain invaluable experience working alongside your team and I am eager to continue building upon the skills I’ve acquired in my medical education.
