Sonia Allende

My name is Sonia Allende, I am a first-generation student at Heritage University. I received my BA in Social Work at Heritage University in 2019. I am currently in the advanced standing master’s in social work program at Heritage University and plan to graduate in July of 2025.

I was born and raised in Pasco, Washington. My parents are from Oaxaca Mexico and migrated to the United States in hopes of better opportunities for our family. My parents have done their best to provide for me and my sisters so we can have the opportunity to pursue our hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, in my lifetime I have been exposed to adverse events within my family and community. Mental health has been a core element that resulted in the events that I was exposed to such as violence, drug, and alcohol abuse. It has been my goal to become part of my community in providing support for those in need. Social work has been my focus in advancing so I am able to provide mental health therapy for the Latin-x community.
